I flew over to Washington DC this past weekend, and decided to visit Top Chef Season 4 Contestant Spike Mendelsohn’s burger joint Good Stuff Eatery. I went expecting a lot from a top chef contestant, especially after waiting a good 20 minutes for my burger.. and it was being served fast food style - meaning I had to stand around waiting for my burger before I could go find a seat (I was by myself and didn’t have anyone to save a table for me) and it comes to you in a white paper bag.
I was debating between a couple choices before I decided on the Prez Obama Burger. The cashier recommended it to me and it looked delicious enough, so why not?
After getting my burger, I realized it did not look appetizing. At all. It was greasy (soaked through the paper it was wrapped in), squished, and a little soggy from the onion marmalade. The burger was a little too heavily sauced; all I tasted was the sweet marmalade, but none of the bite from horseradish mayo I had expected.
I’m returning to DC this summer, and I think I’ll give it the restaurant another shot. There is a fairly decent selection of burgers, so some of them must be better than this one right?
